A functional one-handed 38″ arming sword built as an original design rather than a copy of any historical original. It keeps the familiar arming-sword layout, a straight cruciform crossguard, a shaped one-hand pommel, and a stiff diamond-section blade. So it handles like a classic knightly sidearm without claiming to reproduce a specific museum piece. It is not a fantasy sword and not a documented replica. It is a working, functional arming sword of modern design.

The 38″ Functional Arming Sword blade

AzureForge forges the blade from 65Mn spring steel, oil quenched and given a brushed polish. It carries high tensile strength and stays intact through a 10-degree flex, then springs back. The edge ships sharp and handles the usual targets: water bottles, mats, and light wood, and it will pierce thin sheet metal. A four-sided diamond cross-section keeps the blade stiff for the thrust, and a progressive thickness gradient trims the weight without giving up strength.

Full tang construction

The sword runs a one-piece full tang for rigidity from edge to pommel. The stainless steel crossguard and pommel are riveted tight, so nothing shakes or works loose through repeated cutting. Stainless furniture also resists rust with little upkeep.

Grip

The grip is wrapped in genuine top-grain cowhide using a seamless medieval wrap and finished with an anti-slip texture for a steady hold. The wrap is hand-stitched and set with adhesive. Over time that adhesive can loosen and the wrap may lift, so see Care for how to keep it tight.

Scabbard

The sword comes with a matching hand-stitched genuine leather scabbard for storage and display.

The Blade Truth Standard

We tell you what a sword is and what it is not, so you buy the right one.

Steel Truth. 65Mn spring steel, oil quenched, brushed finish, on a full tang. Stainless steel guard and pommel, riveted in place.

Build Truth. A stiff four-sided diamond blade with a thickness taper toward the point, set on a classic cruciform hilt. The balance sits 10 cm ahead of the guard, which keeps it lively in the hand, and the centre of percussion falls at 35 cm for a clean cut.

Use Truth. A sharp cutter for target practice on soft media such as water bottles and mats, plus display and collection. The maker also demonstrates it cutting light wood board and piercing thin sheet metal. This is an original design with no historical prototype, so treat it as a working arming sword rather than a period-correct replica.

Limit Truth. The edge is sharp, so this is an adult tool. Keep it away from children. Full tang and riveted furniture make it solid. It remains a sharp cutter, so keep it clear of edge-to-edge sparring and steel-on-steel bouting, which chip any edge. Cutting hard targets such as metal or seasoned wood will dull the edge over time. The grip is set with adhesive, so it can lift and may need re-securing. We do not call it “battle-ready.” That phrase tells you nothing about what a sword can actually do; the Blade Truth Standard above does.

Care

Wipe the blade down and give it a light coat of oil after handling, then store it somewhere dry. Keep the edge away from hard surfaces and other metal. Scabbard fit shifts with humidity and temperature and can feel loose when it arrives, which is normal for a leather rig. Because the grip wrap is set with adhesive, it can lift over time. For long-term storage, wrap the grip and apply light pressure to hold it in place.
